GBA Releases Report on Using Blockchain to Prevent Government Fraud, Waste, and Abuse

The Government Blockchain Association (GBA) today announced the public release of its report, “Modernizing Systems with Blockchain to Prevent Fraud, Waste, and Abuse in Government.” The report outlines how blockchain can improve transparency, auditability, and trust in government financial systems.

The release coincides with President Trump’s March 16, 2026 Executive Order establishing the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, led by Vice President JD Vance. The report aligns directly with this initiative, providing actionable solutions such as real-time fund tracking, immutable audit trails, and automated compliance.

Why this matters – Recent fraud cases including U.S. COVID-19 relief fraud, Italy’s Superbonus program, and major scandals in Brazil, South Africa, Iraq, and U.S. defense contracting collectively represent over $300–$400 billion in losses, highlighting systemic weaknesses in current systems.

“This report shows blockchain is a practical tool to reduce fraud and restore trust,” said Gerard Dache, GBA Executive Director.

The report also emphasizes the need for trusted solutions, highlighting the Blockchain Maturity Model (BMM) to help governments identify secure, validated technologies.
