The GMU Schar School of Public Policy and Government Hosts the Future of Money, Governance & the Law

On September 14, 2019, I will be delivering the opening remarks at the 2019 Fall Symposium: The Future of Money, Governance and the Law.

The Schar School of Policy and Government prepares undergraduate and graduate students to be leaders and managers who solve problems and advance the public good in all sectors and levels of government—in the United States and throughout the world.

Tomorrow’s leader will need to have the skills and tools to navigate a rapidly changing environment. The recent Congressional hearing on July 30 has demonstrated that our leaders need to understand the technology and the changing paradigms technology brings. When technology companies like Facebook introduce new types of financial systems controlled by global technology companies instead of regulated financial institutions, our leaders need to be prepared. We need to understand the opportunities and risks posed by new technologies in financial services. We need to understand the policy implications and how it will impact the future of money, governance, and the law.

For that reason, the Schar School of Policy and Government is pleased to work with the Government Blockchain Association and the Criminal Investigations and Network Analysis Center (CINA) to host the 2019 Symposium: “Future of Money Governance and the Law.” The event will include public and private sector leaders from around the world. See the symposium participants and consider joining us as we explore options and solutions to new challenges facing governments in this country and around the world.
