Preventing Government Fraud, Waste & Abuse with Blockchain on Capitol Hill

In early 2026, the Government Blockchain Association (GBA) will release Preventing Government Fraud, Waste and Abuse with Blockchain during a special event at the U.S. Capitol. The event will showcase and honor the work being done by legislators, administrators and industry leaders promoting government accountability and transparency at all levels of government. The event will be followed by an evening gala reception designed to make networking fun and memorable.
This report was developed in response to major 2024 federal reform discussions, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s pledge to place the entire federal budget on a blockchain and the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under President Trump, tasked with reducing fraud, waste, and abuse across federal programs.
These actions intensified global interest in how blockchain can improve transparency, accountability, and performance. They also aligned directly with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16, particularly Target 16.6, which calls for effective, accountable, and transparent institutions.
As host of the UN IGF Dynamic Coalition on Blockchain Assurance & Standardization, the GBA recognized the need for a structured, multidisciplinary analysis to guide policymakers and program leaders.
The resulting report reflects the work of the GBA Budget, Accountability & Transparency Working Group and the UN IGF Dynamic Coalition on Blockchain Assurance & Standardization, offering practical insights into budgeting, procurement, and inter-agency coordination.
