In Memory of Rachel Harris, Her Leadership and Community Service
It is with deep sadness that the Government Blockchain Association (GBA) shares the passing of Rachel Darlene Harris, a dedicated member of our community and a respected leader whose impact will be felt for years to come. Rachel passed away on March 14, 2026, at the age of 56, following what initially appeared to be a minor illness.
Rachel was born on June 28, 1969, in Kotzebue, Alaska. Over the course of her career, she demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and service. She played a significant role in advancing initiatives within an Alaskan Native corporation and held key positions including NIQI Brand Program Manager for NANA Services LLC from 2006 to 2011, and later President of NIQI LLC from 2011 to 2019. Her professional journey reflected both her capability and her dedication to building meaningful, mission-driven organizations.
In 2022, Rachel returned to Florida to care for her mother, continuing her lifelong pattern of putting family and community first. Around this time, she began experiencing symptoms such as vertigo and breathing difficulties, which she believed were related to environmental factors like pollen and mold. Tragically, these symptoms were later understood to be signs of liver failure, a condition that was not identified until it was too late.
Rachel joined the Government Blockchain Association in 2023 and quickly became one of its most active and impactful contributors. She worked tirelessly to strengthen the organization’s education and grant initiatives, bringing structure, process, and clarity to these efforts. Rachel led working groups, supported members seeking grant opportunities, and helped connect individuals across the GBA network. She was known for her candid advice, well-founded perspectives, and her ability to keep teams focused and aligned toward achievable outcomes.
Her involvement extended beyond strategy and planning. Rachel was an active participant in GBA events, including those in Cleveland, where she collaborated closely with fellow leaders and community members. She served as a trusted advisor and a steady source of guidance, becoming a true pillar within the GBA community.
Outside of her professional and community contributions, Rachel enjoyed sewing, gardening, attending sporting events, and spending time with her beloved dogs. As a former military spouse, she also remained actively involved with AMVETS in the Tampa area, continuing her commitment to supporting veterans and their families.
Rachel is survived by her son, Gage D. McClanahan (Elizabeth) of Appleton, Wisconsin; her granddaughter, Madden; her mother, Rebecca C. Harris; and her siblings, Robert E. Harris of Lithia, and Ruth B. Nowland (Steve) of Lithia.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 3:00 PM (ET) at Hopewell Funeral Home, 6005 South County Road 39, Plant City, Florida. Those wishing to express condolences may visit www.HopewellFuneral.com.
Rachel Harris will be remembered for her leadership, her service, and the genuine care she showed to those around her. It was a true honor to have her as a friend, colleague, and counselor. Her legacy will continue through the many lives she touched and the lasting contributions she made to the GBA community.

Still in literal shock and deeply saddened by our Friend’s unexpected passing. She called me about a week ago and I meant to return her call sooner…
Keep short accounts with those you care for. I love you guys…
I know. So sad.
