Supply Chain Working Group

The Supply Chain / Logistics Working Group studies opportunities to improve the schedule and cost performance of supply chains.  The groups examine blockchain solutions to improve the planning and management of all activities involved in sourcing and procurement, conversion, and all logistics management activities.  Blockchains streamline the coordination and collaboration with channel partners, which can be suppliers, intermediaries, third-party service providers, and customers.  In other words, blockchains can seamlessly integrate supply and demand management within and across organizations, boundaries, currencies, and time zones.

This group will explore how the cryptocurrency ecosystem intersects with the initial state of the supply chain.  This could be related to factors including ecological, biological, and natural resources.  Internet connected devices along with smart contracts could be used to measure and consider these factors and their impact on the supply chain.  IoT allows devices to measure rainfall, temperature, pollution and other environmental impacts on the quality of agricultural products. This could impact price, scheduling, and distribution decisions for supply chains.  Payments, safety, reliability and compliance data could all be collected, automated and used by intelligent applications to reduce waste, resources, cost and improve reliability.

The blockchain also could allow better-improved extraction of raw material, and production links (e.g., component construction, assembly, and merging) before moving on to several layers of storage facilities of ever-decreasing size and increasingly remote geographical locations, and finally reaching the consumer.  Blockchain applications and cryptocurrencies will have a dramatic impact on these business processes.

Members of public sector organizations are invited to join this working group along with individual professional and corporate members.  This group will explore white papers, articles, and presentation materials to be made exclusively available to GBA members.
