Blockchain Maturity Model v2.0 Release on Capitol Hill

The Government Blockchain Association (GBA) is pleased to announce that the final, approved version of the Blockchain Maturity Model (BMM) v2.0 will be formally released in March 2026 at the U.S. Capitol Hill Blockchain Showcase.

This milestone event marks the culmination of years of global collaboration and rigorous development by the GBA Standards & Certifications Working Group. Building on the success of BMM v1.0, the BMM v2.0 introduces clearer structure, refined assessment criteria, and updated terminology, making it more usable for solution developers, acquisition professionals, and investors seeking to evaluate blockchain solutions for trustworthiness, reliability, and maturity.

Why BMM v2.0 Matters

Blockchain adoption continues to grow across public and private sectors, yet many organizations still lack clear guidance on how to assess the maturity of blockchain-based solutions. The BMM provides a structured, multi-tiered framework to:

• Guide solution developers in building robust, scalable blockchain ecosystems.
• Enable acquisition professionals to evaluate solutions with objective criteria.
• Support due diligence for investors and regulatory stakeholders.

The updated version introduces improvements based on global feedback and lessons learned from prior assessments. BMM v2.0 remains technology-neutral and is designed to evaluate not just the blockchain layer, but the entire solution, including off-chain components, governance models, technical infrastructure, and all required assets for the solution.
