Blockchain Election System Used for Board Elections of Global Organization
October 29, 2024 – Washington, DC — The Government Blockchain Association (GBA), a global industry association with members in over 500 government offices worldwide, successfully conducted its Board elections using a blockchain-based voting solution. This marks a significant advancement in applying blockchain technology to ensure the integrity, transparency, and security of electoral processes.
GBA members generated a unique voting token that guaranteed all eligible members could vote, while protecting their anonymity. Using their personal devices, members voted securely from various locations across the globe. The votes were recorded on an immutable ledger that concealed the vote totals until the election closed. Once the voting period concluded, voters could view the final tabulated results independently, without relying on a third party for vote counting.
The election process was overseen by the GBA Voting Working Group, chaired by Susan Eustis. This group includes election officials, blockchain voting system vendors, and blockchain experts, all contributing to a comprehensive set of resources available on the GBA Voting Resource page.
All of the Board candidates were exemplary individuals and long-time supporters of the GBA community. Through years of dedicated contributions to major GBA initiatives, each candidate has shaped this association for the better. The two that received the most votes were Paul Dowding &Â Linda Hutchinson.
This election is a pioneering effort by GBA to demonstrate the power of blockchain technology in elections. Our Voting Working Group chose the SmartVote Application on Blocksiteâ„¢, a Layer 1 protocol developed in Latin America.
