The Community Engagement Workgroup, operating under the Local & Community Governance cluster of the Government Blockchain Association (GBA), is dedicated to harnessing Web3 technologies to amplify citizen voices in local decision-making processes worldwide. By leveraging blockchain-based tools such as decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), smart contracts, and tokenized voting systems, the workgroup aims to foster transparent, accountable, and trustworthy interactions between community members and their representatives. This initiative addresses the challenges of traditional governance by enabling secure, verifiable participation in local matters—ranging from urban planning and resource allocation to policy advocacy—ensuring that diverse voices locally are heard, documented, and acted upon in a tamper-proof manner. Through collaborative projects, education, and pilot implementations, the workgroup empowers communities to build resilient, active governance models that prioritize trust and accountability at the grassroots level.
